SE TENNIS & LEARNING CENTER AT THE US OPEN ON SATURDAY AUGUST 27, 2005

 

DC Mayor Anthony Williams Will Join Cora Masters Barry, the SE Tennis and Learning Center Students and Staff as they receive the United States Tennis Association’s “Tennis Facility Youth Program of the Year” Award

WHO: Cora Masters Barry (Founder of Recreation Wish List Committee and the SE Tennis and Learning Center) and 20 tennis students will be honored on Saturday August 27, 2005 at the US Open by the United States Tennis Association for a prestigious award, the “USTA Tennis Facility Youth Program of the Year”, at the Authur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, NY. District of Columbia Mayor Anthony Williams and his wife, Diane Williams will join Mrs. Cora Masters Barry and the awardees at the US Open’s President’s Box. The students will travel by bus courtesy of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation. The event will be televised on CBS on Sunday, August 28, 2005 (2pm-4pm).

WHERE: The US Open, Authur Ashe Stadium, Flushing Meadows, NY


WHY: The SE Tennis and Learning Center is being recognized by the United States Tennis Association for their contribution to education and the world of tennis at the US Open. They were chosen out of thousands of tennis centers around the country to be awarded this prestigious honor. The center was made possible by the Recreation Wish List Committee (RWLC) of Washington, DC, that was founded in 1995 by Cora Masters Barry and is committed to providing quality athletic and learning enrichment programs for the children of the District of Columbia. Under the leadership of its Board of Directors, the RWLC brings together public and private resources to support the programs and facilities of DC Departments of Parks and Recreation. The RWLC has resurfaced deteriorated ball fields, installed computer labs, equipped run-down playgrounds, renovated neglected recreation centers, and have built the most prestigious state of the art Tennis and Learning facility in the country, The Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (STLC) in Washington, DC.
